Travis Industries has been informed that one of its suppliers, Robertshaw Controls Company
(in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) is recalling its 7000 Series
LP Millivolt gas valves that were installed on certain Travis direct vent products AND
converted to liquid propane (LP) gas.
Customers should check the Travis serial number and date of manufacture on their
product, which is printed on each product’s serial-number label. If customers purchased
any of the products identified above, or had the gas valve replaced on any of
these products for any reason between the dates indicated above, their products
may be affected. If customers purchased their products before 1/2/2003 and have
not had the valve replaced since then, their products do not have a recalled valve.
What is the potential hazard? If the pilot light goes out on an affected LP Spirit
DV, DVL Insert, DVS Insert, or DVS Fireplace, the Robertshaw gas valve may stick
in the open position, permitting gas to continue to flow. This can cause gas to accumulate,
which can lead to a gas explosion or fire. The explosion may shatter the
glass assembly on the product resulting in severe bodily injury and property damage.
What should customers do if their product uses the recalled valve? If the pilot
light on an affected Spirit DV, DVL Insert, DVS Insert, or DVS Fireplace is extinguished
for any reason, do not attempt to relight it. Turn off the gas supply until the
valve has been replaced or you verify that your product does not use the recalled
valve. If, at any time, you smell gas near the Spirit DV, DVL Insert, DVS Insert, or
DVS Fireplace or in the building, immediately leave the area and call your gas company
or a certified gas technician to investigate the cause.
The Robertshaw gas valves on all affected Travis products must be immediately repaired
or replaced even if you have not had any problems with your product.
How can customers get their valves repaired or replaced? Robertshaw will provide
a free replacement or repair of the recalled valve. To obtain a replacement or
repair, follow these steps.
1. Call Robertshaw’s toll-free hotline at (800) 232-9389 from 8:00 a.m. to
8:00 p.m. ET. Tell the operator you are calling about the recall.
2. Be prepared to provide this information to Robertshaw’s Service Technician:
2.a Your name, phone number, and address.
2.b The brand, model and serial number of the gas stove or fireplace you have.
Only the four models listed above of this notice and that are burning LP gas
are affected by the recall.
2.c The type of valve the stove, fireplace or fireplace insert uses. Provide
the Robertshaw Service Technician with the following information:
Series 7000 MVRB Robertshaw valve, converted to LP gas Part No.
786-826-319.
3. The Robertshaw Service Technician will either transfer you to a service
provider immediately or arrange to have a service provider call you back
to schedule an appointment. You may also ask the Robertshaw Service Technician if you
may choose your own service provider, and he/she will give you information regarding how
to arrange that.
4. The Robertshaw Service Technician can discuss safety precautions for you to follow until your
appliance can be serviced.
5. You may also send an e-mail to Robertshaw to schedule a service visit
at 7000recall@robertshaw.com

code locations are circled in blue above.
Product: 7000 Series Gas Valve: Robertshaw Controls Company, located
in Long Beach California, is recalling 398,016 7000 Series gas valves.
The voluntary recall applies to certain 7000 Series gas valves produced
between February 2003 and September 2004. The 7000 Series valves
being recalled have production dates beginning with code 0306 and ending
with 0436. Model numbers 7010 and above are not included in the recall.
Model numbers, which include the letters "D" or "GV," also are not included
in the recall. Finally, model numbers, which include the letters "MV," are
not included except for those "MV" models, which also include the letters
"LP" and model numbers 7000AMV; 7000BMV; 7000BMV-S7CL;
7000MVLC; 7000MVRCLC.
The 7000 Series Gas Valves that are being recalled are installed in gas
fireplaces, pool heaters, infrared heaters and furnaces, and commercial
heating applications such as commercial cooking appliances, fryers,
commercial water heaters and poultry brooders. The four-digit date codes
are on a label affixed to the side of the housing. The date code on the
label is next to a small diamond shape with the letter X inside it.
Hazard: If the pilot light in products that use the valve goes out, the valves
could stick in an open position, permitting gas to continue to flow. This could
result in a gas explosion and fire, which could potentially result in severe
personal injury and/or property damage.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received reports of one incident with the
7000 Series valve involving one minor injury.
What to do: Consumers should call Robertshaw’s toll free number at
1(800) 232-9389 or visit www.robertshaw.com to determine if their product
is involved in the recall and to obtain a free repair or, if necessary, a
replacement.
Affected Manufacturers and Appliances/Products: A list of
manufacturers and models that contain recalled 7000 valves is available at
www.robertshaw.com. This information is also available via the recall
hotline at 1(800) 232-9389.
Safety Precautions: As with any gas appliance, if you smell gas near the
appliance or in the building, immediately leave the area and call your gas
company or a certified gas technician to investigate the cause. If you do
not smell gas, check the pilot lights on your gas appliances. If any pilot
lights are out, do not attempt to relight. Have the appliance examined by
the gas company or a qualified technician. If the pilot is functioning
normally (or if the gas supply to the appliance is shut off), you will need to
determine if your gas appliance has a valve that is being recalled.
